Hello and welcome to the Jamaica '08 Mission Team Blog! This is where we'll be posting information in regards to our progress as we draw nearer and nearer to our date of departure. First, let's just get the basics out of the way: the Jamaica '08 Mission Team was formed through the First Presbyterian Church's college ministry, the Hub - this ready and able team is spearheaded by Phil Ward and Kelly Hayes, and includes Eli Benfield, Chrissy Hayward, Kathryn D'Anjou, Janelle Smith, Geoff Weakley, Robert Watson, Jeff and Becka Hooker, Aaron Wieand, Elliot Coup, and Lisa Hawkins. The thirteen of us will spend a bit over a week in Jamaica, leaving on August 9th and arriving back home on the 18th.
Our primary goal for this mission is to help spread understanding of God and his amazing Love through serving the Jamaican people. This service will be performed through street ministry and helping out at a number of orphanages, children's homes, and possibly a hospital.
As of right now, the team is laboring furiously to ensure that everything goes together as best it can; we're learning about the Jamaican geography, religion, demographics, history, language and culture as much as possible to prepare ourselves to be effective workers for God in a foreign land. Similarly, much work is being put into the task of accumulating the finances we still require to make this mission as productive as possible - as it stands right now, we're down about a thousands big ones as a team. As God is our guiding light, though, we're sure to see the wondrous fruits of his work, through us, quite soon.
We appreciate you reading and thus supporting this cause - keep your eyes out for the next post, which'll be sometime within the week!
